Malmo halt Djurgarden's flawless run while Elfsborg claim victory over Degerfors

Djurgarden vs Malmo

A pair of Swedish football powerhouses clashed at 3Arena in Stockholm, where the hosts aimed to maintain their unbeaten record and Malmo sought to show that their initial draw against Orgryte was just a minor setback.

The home team controlled much of the ball during the opening period but lacked the spark to extend their success, managing 10 attempts compared to the away sides three, though only Patric Aslunds strike tested Robin Olsen, who held firm.

Around the 60th minute, Malmo struck first with their initial shot on target, as Otto Rosengrens precise delivery to the far post found Sead Haksabanovic, the ex Djurgarden player who dispatched a controlled volley into the bottom corner.

Similar to the initial half, the hosts dominated possession with about two thirds but managed just one shot on goal, with Bo Hegland coming nearest to breaching Olsens defence. Malmo clung on for the points, despite the late blow of Pontus Jansson picking up an injury in stoppage time.

Degerfors 0-1 Elfsborg

After a tough defeat to Sirius in the opener, Degerfors bounced back with a comfortable win over Halmstad previously, yet for the third outing, the visitors emerged victorious, placing Elfsborg level with Malmo on seven points following a narrow 1-0 success at Stora Valla.

Much like the Stockholm encounter, opportunities were scarce in the first half, and the sole goal came during the latter stages from a dead ball situation. Elfsborg earned a free kick near the Degerfors penalty area, where Julius Magnusson curled it over the defensive wall and beyond keeper Matvei Igonen.

Ludvig Fritzson posed the biggest threat for Degerfors, especially when Marcus Rafferty tumbled in the box and received a yellow card for diving, though overall the hosts failed to mount a serious challenge. Elfsborg lead the standings over Malmo purely due to alphabetical positioning.
