Macclesfield face Brentford in FA Cup after giant-killing Palace
Macclesfield of the sixth tier have an opportunity to oust Premier League opponents once more, having been paired at home against Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round announced on Monday.
The National League North outfit delivered one of the most stunning results ever seen in the tournament by overcoming the trophy holders Crystal Palace 2-1 at Moss Rose on Saturday.
The gap of 117 positions between the top-flight Palace and Macclesfield marks the largest ever bridged by a lower league side in FA Cup annals.
However, they might surpass that achievement next month if they manage to defeat Brentford, currently placed fifth in the Premier League table.
"Prior to the draw, we mentioned wanting a matchup with Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal, yet facing another top-flight club is fantastic," commented Macclesfield manager John Rooney, younger sibling of ex-England skipper Wayne Rooney.
Newcastle will visit Aston Villa in the sole all-Premier League clash confirmed so far.
Liverpool may welcome Brighton's Manchester United vanquishers to Anfield if the Merseysiders overcome Barnsley later on Monday.
Chelsea's Liam Rosenior heads back to his old employers at Hull.
The Premier League frontrunners Arsenal will host Wigan, whereas Manchester City receive visitors from either Salford or Swindon at home.
