Lens close in on PSG with win over lowly Metz

Lens moved just one point behind Ligue 1 frontrunners Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, securing a 3-0 triumph against league basement dwellers Metz to revive their surprising push for the crown.

Saudi star Saud Abdulhamid hammered home the initial strike near the end of the opening period, with Florian Thauvin adding a second for Lens straight after the interval.

Amadou Haidara completed the scoring on the 52nd minute, giving Lens their first success in three outings and boosting their chase of PSG, who suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Monaco on Friday.

Metz, having triumphed over Lens earlier this campaign, remain anchored at the table's base and have not secured a league victory since November, managing just two points across their previous 13 fixtures.

On Saturday, Marseille settled the score with Toulouse for their recent French Cup setback, thanks to Mason Greenwood's lone strike in a 1-0 league success.

Lyon could seize third spot back from Marseille later Sunday by defeating Paris FC.
