Inter Turku draw level for Veikkausliiga summit following stalemate against HJK at home

Inter Turku 1-1 HJK

Inter Turku hosted Finlands most successful club after claiming three successive triumphs, including the latest pair without conceding any goals, as HJK entered the fixture unbeaten across their previous two outings, one of which saw them claim a draw on the road against title holders KuPS, following their single loss to date.

The game remained goalless in terms of efforts on target for the initial 41 minutes, before bursting into action towards the close of the opening period. The hosts opened the scoring as Loic Essombas low delivery from the right found Vincent Ulundu, who hit the upright with his first awkward shot, then rammed the follow up into the unguarded goal with the keeper out of position.

Yet the away side responded within just sixty seconds, with Mads Borchers advancing along the left before rolling the pass inside to Liam Moller, who composed himself effectively and slotted home on the volley.

Notwithstanding the swift response from their opponents, the home outfit pressed forward throughout most of the second period, managing sixteen attempts against HJKs solitary trio. JannePekka Laine, Jasse Tuominen, and Johannes YliKokko each forced saves from Matej Markovic, though the HJK custodian secured the draw for his team.

This outcome saw FC Inter pass up the opportunity to claim the league lead, remaining in second spot behind KuPS by virtue of inferior goal difference, while HJK occupy fourth place, lagging a further three points adrift.
