Guardiola confirms Rodri sidelined for Burnley encounter but not out for remainder of campaign
The recipient of the 2024 Ballon d'Or proved vital in Manchester City's narrow 2-1 victory against Premier League challengers Arsenal this past Sunday prior to his late withdrawal due to a groin issue.
The 29-year-old Rodri seems set to sit out as City seek to claim the summit position in the standings for the initial occasion this year when they travel to Turf Moor.
However City enjoy a 12-day break before their subsequent Premier League fixture against Everton following their involvement in the FA Cup semi-final versus Southampton on Saturday.
"I believe he will not be fit for tomorrow," stated Guardiola during his pre-match briefing on Tuesday.
"We shall assess his availability for upcoming fixtures including the semi-final with Southampton or the clash at Everton."
Rodri's resurgence following a period of 18 months hampered by injuries has significantly contributed to City's renewed push for the championship where he has established a commanding central midfield alliance with Bernardo Silva.
"The pair bring vast experience along with a remarkable unique character," Guardiola further commented.
"They are no longer novices but seasoned players who have featured in numerous high-stakes matches and understand precisely how to approach them. Their performances were outstanding."
Should City secure victory and thereby relegate Burnley they would merely draw level with Arsenal on points with five matches remaining.
While City hold the advantage in form Guardiola remains cautious regarding their more challenging closing schedule which features trips to Everton and Bournemouth both vying for European spots in the forthcoming term.
"Each side recognises that dropping points is not an option," remarked Guardiola who targets a seventh Premier League crown across the past nine years.
"Regaining ground would prove challenging and our fixture list is intensely rigorous. The opposition presents formidable tests."
