Glasner to depart Crystal Palace at season's end

On Friday, Oliver Glasner, manager of Crystal Palace, announced his plan to exit the Premier League side once his contract concludes at the close of the current season.

The Austrian coach steered the Eagles to their debut significant accolade by clinching the FA Cup during the prior campaign.

In addition to securing the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022, Glasner has faced speculation regarding head coaching roles at Manchester United and Tottenham.

"The choice was made some time back, several months earlier," Glasner stated during a media briefing before Palaces journey to face Sunderland on Saturday.

"Back in October, during the international break, I met with Steve Parish, the clubs chairman.

"Our discussion was extensive, and I made it clear that I would not be extending my contract."

Having joined Selhurst Park in February 2024 at the age of 51, he successfully lifted Palace away from the drop zone to secure a respectable 10th position.

In the following year, they ended up 12th overall, yet delivered what many consider the teams most memorable achievement by defeating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley to claim the FA Cup.

This triumph earned them a historic entry into European competition for the first time, although they were subsequently shifted from the Europa League to the Conference League over violations related to multi-club ownership regulations.

Throughout this term, Glasner has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction over the limited size of his squad, and the team has faltered lately following a promising opening to the schedule.

Palace remain without a victory in their last nine outings, which included a humiliating FA Cup elimination against sixth-division Macclesfield just over the weekend.

Glasner further revealed that team skipper Marc Guehi stands close to completing a move to Manchester City.

Nonetheless, he committed to exerting maximum effort to achieve further success in the Conference League prior to his exit.

"I am seeking fresh challenges," remarked the Palace head.

"I have not engaged with any other teams, I shared this with the squad and assured them today that I will deliver my utmost to achieve the highest points total ever recorded in Crystal Palace history, crafting the finest season on record."
