EXCLUSIVE: Yohan Cabaye discusses nurturing future talents in his role as PSG's youth academy head

Below, ex-French international Yohan Cabaye explains how PSG's youth setup upholds its quality and aims to produce more talents for the senior squad of the Paris club.

To begin, thanks for granting access to the media room before this Youth League semi-final versus Real Madrid. Yohan, what is your view on the advancement and exposure for these young prospects?

"We must spotlight the efforts invested. Much is said about the athletes, which is expected, yet a full team supports them, encompassing technical, health, schooling, and developmental aspects.

"These individuals deserve credit. My duty is to foster satisfaction, unity, and alignment among all, allowing the focus to stay on the talents."

This Youth League semi-final holds significance. What is your strategy for it?

"Indeed, it is a key moment, but it ought not to create undue pressure or stand as the ultimate goal. Primarily, it offers a chance to measure ourselves against elite youth systems, gauge our position, and evaluate if this cohort can attain the top tier."

Do you prioritise the journey over the outcome?

"Precisely. It is the path covered and the dedication over recent months. We have reached the Youth League semi-finals, alongside those of the Coupe Gambardella, while holding strong spots in the U19 and U17 leagues.

"This reflects sustained effort across multiple campaigns, with a commitment to yearly improvement. At present, I feel immense pride in these achievements."

You appear optimistic nearing season's close...

"Yes, I trust in the athletes and the team. My task is to ensure all are content, engaged, and energised, enabling us to pursue remarkable success."

It has been a decade since the prior final. Does that carry special meaning?

"Symbols can always emerge. The environment here fosters momentum and excellence. The youth must avoid self-imposed barriers.

"Through diligence and resolve, they can target the pinnacle and forge a legacy for their era."

You observe them daily, do you spot potential for many in this squad to join the senior side?

"I certainly hope, yet realism is key: not all will succeed. This term, various prospects have gained opportunities, indicating a viable pathway. Still, success demands effort.

"They must excel, commit fully, and seize each opening."

How do you uphold elevated expectations among these prospects?

"It falls to us to keep them motivated, rigorous, and resolute. Rewards come only with labour. There are no shortcuts."

Could a future PSG squad feature an even larger contingent from the academy?

"All is feasible. This should serve as motivation. Our aim is to prepare athletes for the top level. Ultimately, leaders decide.

"Currently, emphasis on youth creates openings. We must stay grounded and persist in our labours."
