Ex Southampton and Royal Antwerp striker Victor Udoh passes away aged 21
Victor Udoh, the 21 year old Nigerian footballer who played for Czech second division team Dynamo Ceske Budejovice, was confirmed to have died on Tuesday in Abuja during his holiday after finishing the 2025/26 season.
While the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed, several media reports suggest food or alcohol poisoning may have been a factor.
Southampton FC expressed their condolences to the player's family upon hearing the sad news.
"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of former player Victor Udoh at just 21 years old. Everyone at #SaintsFC sends their deepest sympathies to Victor's family during this incredibly painful time," the English club stated.
Royal Antwerp, his former Belgian club, also responded to the heartbreaking news saying: "RAFC is deeply saddened to learn about the passing of former player Victor Udoh.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to Victor's family, friends and loved ones. We hope they find the strength and support needed to get through this challenging period. May Victor rest in peace."
Udoh, originally from Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria, started his football journey with Hypebuzz before relocating to Belgium to further his career in Royal Antwerp's youth system.
His impressive performances earned him a spot in the senior team, making his debut for the Belgian Pro League club at 19. Although he featured in 28 matches for Antwerp, he did not score any goals.
Despite this, his potential caught the attention of Southampton, who signed him in January 2025 on a three and a half year contract before assigning him to their development squad.
After struggling to secure a place in the first team, he mutually terminated his contract to join Czech second tier side Dynamo Ceske Budejovice in October 2025, signing a three year deal that would have run until 2028.
