Ex Japan international and AC Milan midfielder Honda returns to action at 39 for FC Jurong

FC Jurong of the Singapore Premier League has revealed that the versatile attacking midfielder, who featured and netted goals in three World Cups, will join them for the upcoming campaign.

Honda last played for Paro FC in Bhutan, where he featured in two matches and found the net twice during the 2024/25 term.

Prior to that stint, he represented FK Suduva in Lithuania back in 2021, and has previously suited up for teams in Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, and Azerbaijan.

In a club statement, Honda mentioned he is "chasing various personal ambitions", such as aiming to score in more top domestic leagues than any other player.

"That said, my main aim here is to secure the league championship," he stated.

"We face a few formidable opponents, making it a real test, yet I am fully committed to succeeding."

Honda stepped away from Japan duty after earning 98 appearances and scoring 38 times, following his involvement in the 2018 World Cup held in Russia.

Beyond the pitch, he manages a venture capital firm, owns a lower-tier Japanese club, and has ventured into coaching by leading Cambodias national side from August 2018 until January 2023.

FC Jurong, previously called Albirex Niigata Singapore, described signing Honda as more than just adding one player.

"Constructing a magnificent fortress requires a strong foundation stone," remarked chairman Daisuke Korenaga.

"We embed within it elite global expertise, foresight, and enthusiasm.

"Alongside Keisuke Honda, our resolve is to create a heritage that propels this team through the coming century."
