The forward thinking midfielder spent five days in hospital in November following a collapse during a standard health check and has not appeared in any matches afterwards.

Medical experts identified vasovagal syncope resulting from an abrupt reduction in blood pressure heart rate and brain blood supply which led Oscar to bring his playing days to a close. His agreement was scheduled to conclude in 2027.

"I am ending a career here in Sao Paulo that has taken me practically to the four corners of the world," the ex Chelsea and Shanghai Port footballer stated in an official club announcement.

Oscar featured for Chelsea over five campaigns securing two Premier League crowns along with the Europa League prior to his switch to Shanghai in 2017 during which he collected three Chinese Super League honours.

He rejoined Sao Paulo in 2025 the team where he first launched his professional path. Earning 48 international appearances for Brazil Oscar claimed the FIFA Confederations Cup and competed in the 2014 World Cup on native territory.
