In past seasons, teams typically needed scores in the upper 30s to avoid relegation in LaLiga, and reaching 40 points has usually secured safety.

However, as only three matchdays remain this campaign, achieving 40 points may not suffice amid what ranks as the fiercest drop zone scramble across Europe's elite divisions.

"We must prove we can handle the grit - this defines the relegation scrap today, and merely the sides that embrace it will endure," remarked Elche coach Eder Sarabia on the attributes required to evade the drop zone.

The scenario remains intricate. Just two weeks from the end, certain clubs find themselves oddly positioned, chasing European places while still vulnerable to descent.

Levante have gathered three victories in their previous five outings, reaching 36 points, whereas Alaves, occupying 18th and teetering on the edge, hold 37.

Girona, set to travel to Conference League contenders Rayo Vallecano on Monday evening, sit on 38 points, with Elche, Real Mallorca, and Espanyol each at 39. Sevilla, seven time Europa League champions who narrowly escaped relegation last year, possess 40 points.

Valencia hold 12th on 42 points, matched by Rayo Vallecano and Osasuna - this group trails seventh spot, a Conference League berth, by a mere three points.

Sevilla have struck form at a critical juncture, securing consecutive home triumphs over Real Sociedad and Espanyol, which propelled them to 40 points and clear of the lower trio.

Yet, facing third placed Champions League bound Villarreal on Wednesday, Sevilla continue to glance anxiously behind them.

"Forty points do not guarantee safety, we need to press on and prepare for Villarreal," stated manager Luis Garcia Plaza following their 2-1 comeback win against Espanyol with a pair of late strikes on Saturday.

Clarity might emerge somewhat this week, though the battle against the drop seems destined to reach the final whistle, featuring multiple pivotal 'six pointer' clashes ahead.

Mallorca have undergone a revival under Martin Demichelis, who succeeded Jagoba Arrasate in February, dropping points in just two of their past nine LaLiga encounters, yet relaxation is premature.

Following their Wednesday visit to Getafe, they confront a decisive encounter with surging Levante.
