Eddie Howe urges Newcastle to demand more from star summer acquisition Woltemade

Eddie Howe believes Newcastle must extract greater contributions from their record purchase Nick Woltemade as they strive to revitalise their Premier League campaign.

The Tyneside club resumes play versus Manchester City this Saturday, positioned 14th in the standings, where their league results sharply differ from their strong showings in the Champions League.

The German forward Woltemade, acquired for £69 million ($90 million) from Stuttgart during the summer, netted five goals across his initial eight outings in various competitions for the team.

However, the 23 year old has only found the net once in his last six matches for Newcastle, though he notched three strikes in recent World Cup qualifiers versus Luxembourg and Slovakia amid the international pause.

"Given the limited practice sessions we have shared with him, I reckon he has performed exceptionally well and has strived to apply our instructions as effectively as possible," Howe remarked to journalists on Friday.

"He kicked off impressively with goals. Those international strikes should boost him immensely too.

"For a striker, self assurance is paramount, so he ought to feel satisfied with his efforts. Yet we must push for higher standards and require additional output from him, positioning him as the central figure in our lineup."

Teammate striker Yoane Wissa, another summer addition costing £55 million, remains sidelined without a single appearance due to a knee problem, thereby heightening the reliance on Woltemade.
