De Ligt's late header earns Man United point in Tottenham stalemate, Arsenal seek to widen gap

A dramatic header from Matthijs de Ligt in stoppage time salvaged a 2-2 draw for Manchester United against Tottenham, while Arsenal gear up to tackle Sunderland on Saturday with eyes on bolstering their lead in the Premier League.

Manchester United took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 32nd minute, as frustrations grew among the crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After facing boos at the interval, Tottenham responded strongly, appearing set for a thrilling win when Mathys Tel levelled in the 84th minute and Richarlison turned in a deflection from Wilson Odobert's effort in the 91st.

However, United's De Ligt rose to nod home in the 96th minute, stretching his team's unbeaten streak to five matches.

This slip by Tottenham in clinging to their advantage added to their poor form in home league fixtures during 2025, marked by just one victory in six Premier League outings in north London this season.

Both coaches expressed disappointment post-match, with United's Ruben Amorim noting: During the encounter, it felt like the victory was within reach.

We must develop further as a unit since this was our chance to triumph. A touch more courage could have sealed it.

Tottenham's Thomas Frank remarked: Several aspects needed improvement. That final goal stemmed from a lack of intensity, perhaps avoiding the delivery and marking tighter.

United, sitting seventh, have now gone eight encounters without defeating third-placed Tottenham, including a 1-0 loss in May's Europa League final.

West Ham lift

West Ham strengthened their fight against the drop by edging out relegation rivals Burnley 3-2 at the London Stadium.

Burnley struck first in the 35th minute as Lesley Ugochukwu's delivery found Zian Flemming, who nodded in from near point-blank range.

Callum Wilson restored parity for West Ham with a sharp rebound finish in the 44th minute, following Crysencio Summerville's denied strike.

Tomas Soucek gave West Ham the edge in the 77th minute, scrambling home close up after Lucas Paqueta's cross was pushed out by Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Dubravka's error in the 87th minute handed Kyle Walker-Peters a simple tap-in, confirming the Hammers' success.

Burnley's Josh Cullen netted late in added time, but it proved fruitless.

West Ham, third from the bottom, matched fourth-bottom Burnley on points thanks to back-to-back triumphs.

Everton halted a three-match drought with a 2-0 success over Fulham at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

David Moyes' squad led when Idrissa Gueye poked in during first-half added time, off James Tarkowski's bar-rattling header.

Michael Keane sealed the win in the 81st minute, converting Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's corner at the back post.

In pursuit of their first English crown since 2004, Arsenal could stretch nine points ahead with a win at the Stadium of Light.

Mikel Arteta's side has triumphed in their past 10 outings across all tournaments.

The Gunners have been second in the Premier League for three straight years and last won silverware with the 2020 FA Cup.

Chelsea welcome Wolves in Saturday's closing fixture.
