Chuba Akpom seals permanent Ajax transfer to Ipswich Town post promotion triumph

Ajax arranged a loan of Chuba Akpom to Ipswich Town featuring an option for the English club to convert it into a full transfer. Various reports suggest the agreement turns permanent upon Ipswich earning promotion to the Premier League, resulting in Ajax receiving £8 million or about €9.2 million.

Ipswich Town earned promotion to the Premier League via a 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, thus securing second place in the Championship ahead of Millwall and Southampton.

Akpom featured in 29 Championship matches, managing only two goals with zero assists. The 30 year old Englishman began just seven of those games, his final start along with a goal occurring during Ipswichs 3-0 success against Oxford United on New Years Day. In the teams last 15 outings, he played in five for a total of 85 minutes while sitting unused on the bench for the other ten.

Chuba Akpom transferred to Ajax from Middlesbrough in 2023 for an estimated €12.3 million, though he struggled to leave a strong mark in Amsterdam amid the clubs significant internal issues. Over 68 appearances in all competitions, he scored 23 goals.
