Barcelona Forward Lewandowski Expected to Sit Out El Clasico After Hamstring Strain

Robert Lewandowski, the striker for Barcelona, is expected to sit out the Clasico following a diagnosis of a hamstring injury by the Spanish champions on Tuesday.

The 37 year old forward picked up the injury in a World Cup qualifier for Poland against Lithuania on Sunday.

Barcelona stated that Lewandowski "has a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his left thigh", while Spanish media suggest he might be out of action for four to six weeks.

Barcelona will play La Liga leaders Real Madrid in the Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu on 26 October, and the forward is also likely to miss Champions League games against Olympiakos and Club Brugge, along with other fixtures.

Goalkeeper Joan Garcia and midfielder Dani Olmo are also set to be absent for the Clasico with Barca, but teenage winger Lamine Yamal resumed training on Monday after dealing with a groin issue.

Ferran Torres, the Barca striker, was released from the Spain national team camp due to muscular discomfort, yet the club confirmed on Monday that he has avoided an injury.

Torres has already started as the main striker for Barca on multiple occasions this season, with Lewandowski commonly used as a substitute.
