Arne Slot expresses confidence in Salah overcoming scoring slump

Arne Slot stated on Friday that the "final concern" for him is Mohamed Salah regaining his goal-scoring form, following the Liverpool forwards dry spell that has now stretched to six matches for the club.

The Egyptian star has failed to net a Premier League goal from open play since the seasons opening fixture and was omitted from the starting eleven for Liverpools 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League earlier this week.

He was also replaced late in Liverpools 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Anfield last weekend, having squandered two clear opportunities, despite the sides urgent push for a leveller.

Liverpool head coach Slot, with his squad set to take on Brentford on Saturday, admitted he could not pinpoint the reason behind Salah, last seasons Premier League Golden Boot winner, current difficulties.

"Generally speaking, in football, players squander opportunities, and Mo is human too," he remarked during his pre-match media briefing on Friday.

"We are unaccustomed to him wasting chances, particularly over several games consecutively, yet such occurrences are possible."

However, the Dutch coach voiced assurance that Salah, who has managed only two Premier League strikes in eight outings this term, will soon sharpen his predatory instincts.

"The very last thing that troubles me is Mo resuming his goal-scoring exploits," he added.

"Thats precisely what he has achieved throughout his career, and its what I anticipate from him in the coming weeks and months for our team."

Liverpool clinched the Premier League crown in dominant fashion last term before investing approximately £450 million ($600 million) on fresh talent during the summer window.

Trent Alexander-Arnolds move to Real Madrid, coupled with various injuries, has led to multiple alternatives filling the right-back role, such as midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Slot acknowledged that his squad is still adapting, encompassing the 33 year old Salah, who operates on the right flank of Liverpools forward line.

"He has frequently found himself in advantageous spots to find the net, but perhaps with Trents absence more so, I am unsure," he commented.

"Overall though, for all players, when numerous alterations occur in the team over the summer, rebuilding partnerships takes time, and it typically unfolds gradually.

"Mo falls into this category as well."

Liverpool, who kicked off the campaign with seven successive triumphs across competitions, have now dropped their most recent three league encounters and sit fourth in the standings, trailing leaders Arsenal by four points.

Jeremie Frimpong and shot-stopper Alisson Becker will miss the Brentford clash due to hamstring troubles, while Slot awaits news on Alexander Isak, who picked up a groin issue midweek, alongside midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
