Acerca de Etiopía - Premier League

Historia, formato, organización, cobertura mediática

La Ethiopian Premier League, como su nombre indica, es el campeonato de máxima categoría en el país de Etiopía. La competición, tal como la conocemos hoy, fue fundada en 1997, o 1990 según el calendario etíope. Sustituyó a la antigua primera división que comenzó en 1944.

La temporada generalmente comienza en noviembre y la liga se desarrolla bajo un sistema de todos contra todos a doble vuelta, lo que significa que cada equipo se enfrentará a todos los demás clubes tanto en casa como fuera durante la temporada. La máxima categoría etíope cuenta con un sistema de ascenso y descenso, donde los tres últimos equipos al final de la temporada descienden a la Ethiopian Higher League, la segunda división del país. El equipo que termina en primer lugar se corona campeón y obtiene un boleto para la CAF Champions League.
