Yaya Toure among candidates for head coaching role at Slovan Bratislava

Following the exit of Vladimir Weiss Sr the club are busily looking for a fresh coach with various overseas possibilities also being examined according to reports.

In recent days Slovan general director Ivan Kmotrik Jr denied rumours about negotiations with Zsolt Hornyak or Czech coach Tomas Janotka. However he did indicate that the club are already in talks with chosen candidates and aims to reveal the new coach name within the next two weeks.

"We do not want to drag this out. We aim to settle it as fast as possible but it is not an easy decision so we will not make any hasty or rushed choices" Kmotrik was quoted as saying by SPORT.sk.

Toure name came up on the show Okom Odbornika where he was mentioned by well known former Slovak footballer Ladislav Borbely.

According to behind the scenes details the ex midfielder of Manchester City and Barcelona is one of the candidates Slovan are negotiating with. The same details were later confirmed by the podcast Bavme Sa O Lige.

Toure enjoyed a highly successful playing career. With Barcelona he won two LaLiga titles and a Champions League trophy and added three more league titles with Manchester City.

Yet his coaching career is only starting out. He has worked as an assistant at Olimpik Donetsk Akhmat Grozny Standard Liege and most recently with the Saudi Arabian national team alongside Roberto Mancini. Since October 2024 he has been without a club.

According to Slovak media Toure is not the main favourite for the vacant position. That is reported to be Croatian coach Igor Biscan who has been in contact with Slovan since last December.

The former Liverpool player has managed Dinamo Zagreb the Croatian U21 national team and Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab during his coaching career.
