'We aren't the overwhelming favourites': Casemiro savours Brazil's role as World Cup underdogs

Brazil, aiming to secure a record-extending sixth World Cup title, find themselves behind European champions Spain, 2018 World Cup winners France and England in the bookmakers' odds for the tournament from June 11 to July 19 in North America.

"We are not the overwhelming favourites," Casemiro told FIFA's media channel after Brazil arrived in the US on Tuesday. "Of course, we are in good form; we have a strong squad with a blend of experience and youth."

"Maybe this time we are a step behind, but we are alert and that is always a positive. We want to arrive in good condition and have an excellent World Cup."

The 34-year-old stated that Brazil had experienced a difficult cycle in the lead-up to the World Cup, with the Brazilian Football Confederation appointing Carlo Ancelotti as manager and electing a new president last year.

"It has been a tough period with a change of manager, a change of president and much upheaval," he added.

"We have only spent one year working with the manager, who has vast experience in football, but actually we have only worked together for 40 days. I believe we will enter the tournament in strong form.

"We have quality players, seasoned players, energetic players and young players. I believe we have a good blend for this competition."

Brazil will face Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
