'Unequivocal failure': Allegri sacked by AC Milan after missing out on Champions League
The experienced manager was let go along with top officials Giorgio Furlani, Igli Tare, and Geoffrey Moncada as part of a major shakeup designed to revamp the club's football operations ahead of the next season.
Allegri finished a dismal second half of the Serie A season with a 2-1 home loss to Cagliari on Sunday, managing only one victory in their last four matches.
"Following last year's letdown, the club's directive was clear: secure a Champions League spot and build a platform for sustained success at the pinnacle of Serie A," Milan stated.
"For most of the season, we were among the top two in Serie A, with a genuine chance to contend for the title. The closing stages, however, fell far short of the earlier standards, culminating in a disheartening defeat in the final match that rendered the season an undeniable failure.
"This moment calls for transformation and a thorough restructuring of our football operations. As of now, we are severing ties with CEO Giorgio Furlani, Sporting Director Igli Tare, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri, and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada. We extend our gratitude to each for their commitment and service to AC Milan during their time with us.
"Updates on new appointments will follow in the appropriate timeframe, ensuring we are fully prepared for the upcoming season."
Allegri's second tenure at AC Milan this season followed his initial stint from 2010 to early 2014. The squad remained in contention for the Serie A crown for the majority of the season but suffered a notable slump towards the finale, precipitating his departure.
