Sporting captain Hjulmand 'shocked' after 2nd division side Torreense win Portuguese cup

Torreense claimed their maiden significant trophy in their 109 year existence when Cape Verde international defender Stopira netted the decisive penalty, handing the underdogs a surprising 2 1 victory.

Earlier, Kevin Zohi had given Torreense the lead within just three minutes, only for Luis Suarez to level for Sporting, the 18 time cup winners, early in the second period.

Morten Hjulmand featured for the entire 120 minutes and post match, he appeared visibly affected by his team's display.

"At this moment, words fail me. We must dissect the game. I believe we were lacking in attitude, particularly when we squandered passes and opportunities. That is unacceptable. It's football, but our demeanour could have been stronger today. That was my impression throughout the match", Hjulmand told Record.

"We aimed to celebrate with our fans, the stadium was packed, but the blame lies with us. We needed to step up and alter the course. We fell short of the standards we've set over the past three seasons."

Consequently, Morten Hjulmand and Sporting conclude the campaign trophy less, having also secured second place in the Portuguese league.
