Scott Parker departs Burnley after the team's drop from the Premier League
Burnley earned promotion as runners-up in the Championship yet appeared set to drop back to the second tier right from the season's outset, finding it tough to adapt to the higher level.
Their demotion was sealed on April 22nd after a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, which turned out to be Parker's last game at the helm.
After the club's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed last week, Parker and the board engaged in talks and jointly decided that his stint at Turf Moor had reached its end, the club announced in a statement.
The club extends its heartfelt appreciation to Scott for his commitment, effort, and input. He departs with the admiration and thanks of all involved with Burnley Football Club.
Parker succeeded Vincent Kompany as Burnley manager during the summer of 2024, right after the side's fall to the Championship, and guided them straight back to the elite division on the first attempt.
Though they missed out on the championship to Leeds by a narrow goal difference margin, it remained a remarkable effort. They suffered only two losses, maintained a 33-game unbeaten sequence, and secured 30 shutouts, setting a new Championship benchmark.
That said, they could not sustain such momentum in the Premier League, managing just a single victory in their opening seven fixtures and suffering a 16-game drought without a win between November and February.
It has truly been a tremendous honour to manage this remarkable club across the last two years, Parker commented. I cherished every aspect of our shared path, yet I believe this is the appropriate juncture for us both to pursue separate routes.
I look back with immense satisfaction on our accomplishments here, particularly the memorable promotion drive in 2024/25, and it was an absolute privilege to bring this squad into the Premier League.
I want to express my gratitude to Alan and the owners for their backing throughout my tenure. I also thank the dedicated backroom team that never stops, and above all, the players who poured their all into it from day one.
In closing, a big thank you to the Burnley supporters. I hope nothing but success for you all and this wonderful club moving ahead.
