Sam Kerr thrilled after surpassing Chelsea's WSL scoring milestone in team's victory
The 32-year-old leapt to connect with a cross from Niamh Charles in the 13th minute of Chelsea's 3-1 victory against Leicester City at King Power Stadium, overtaking Fran Kirby as the top scorer for the eight-time WSL title holders.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to surpass the record, it feels incredible to be ranked alongside some of those legends," Kerr shared in a message to supporters on the club's social media channels.
"But I'm truly privileged and it's been fantastic to net 64 goals before all of you - let's wrap up the season in style."
Kerr remains Australia's record international goalscorer with 75 strikes from 139 appearances, and she lifted the WSL golden boot in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns after bagging 21 and 20 goals.
