Rodri to reveal Man City future after World Cup as Real Madrid rumours intensify

Rodri's contract at the Etihad Stadium runs until 2027, and he has previously suggested he would like to return to Spain at some point in his career.

The 29 year old former Ballon d'Or winner has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme reportedly interested. Riquelme is set to challenge current president Florentino Perez in this weekend's election.

"I try not to dwell on the rumours. I know it is part of the job," Rodri told reporters at Spain's pre-World Cup training camp on the outskirts of Madrid.

"It is normal for names to come up, especially when a player is approaching the final years of his contract."

"I feel very relaxed. I know exactly where I stand, and honestly, if there were no World Cup, the situation might be different now," he explained.

Rodri joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

He has won four Premier League titles with City and played a crucial role in the club's first Champions League triumph three years ago, but he has faced injury struggles since tearing his cruciate ligament in September 2024.

"With a World Cup coming up, my focus must be on the tournament," referring to the event in the United States, Mexico and Canada starting on June 11th.

"Anything concerning my future will be put off until after the World Cup," Rodri concluded.
