Netherlands coach Koeman delays World Cup team selection by two days
The Netherlands football federation has announced that the team list will now be revealed on Wednesday, May 27th, shifted back by two days.
Key figures such as top goalscorer Memphis Depay, Justin Kluivert from Bournemouth and Arsenal's Jurrien Timber remain uncertain for the upcoming event in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
"With these additional two days, we can ensure greater confidence that the chosen players are in optimal condition," stated Koeman in a release from the federation.
"It also allows us to directly observe, discuss with and evaluate potential squad members during the training sessions on May 25th, 26th and 27th.
This adjustment does not affect our planned timeline, since full group preparations begin on Saturday, May 30th. Thus, I intend to make the most of this extension to fully consider every factor in our final decisions," he continued.
The team heads to the United States on June 4th, ahead of their opening World Cup fixture against Japan on June 14th in Dallas.
Prior to that, they have warm-up games lined up versus other qualifiers Algeria on June 3rd in Rotterdam and Uzbekistan on June 8th in New York.
