My appetite for winning has not changed, says PSG's Dembele ahead of UCL final

Dembele began the press conference by expressing his respect for the opposition.

"Arsenal are an excellent side. We have witnessed them romp to the Premier League title and seen their performances in the Champions League.

They merit a place in the final. They play outstanding football in all areas. They also have an exceptional manager," he said.

The French winger stated that securing the Ballon d'Or last year did not alter his ambition in the slightest.

"It has not altered my style of play or my personality. I believe I simply carry more responsibility since joining PSG. However, my hunger for victory has not diminished; I still want to win trophies with this team.

Individual accolades may generate discussion among the public, but for me the priority is triumphing with PSG," Dembele continued.

There was some anxiety among PSG supporters following news of Dembele's calf injury at the end of the Ligue 1 season, but the player himself was confident he would be fit for the match in Budapest.

"I was not worried about missing the final. I had ten to fifteen days to prepare. The season was quite challenging for everyone at PSG; we did not have much rest time. But we are 100 per cent ready to go," he remarked, referencing PSG's congested fixture list.

The defending champions had virtually no pre-season, moving directly from the Club World Cup to the Super Cup and then into the new season.

"We are endeavouring to be physically ready; the manager gave us plenty of rest days. He and his coaching staff have carefully scheduled all the matches. But I enjoy playing many matches; it indicates you have progressed far in the competitions," Dembele said.

Speaking of the manager, Dembele considers Luis Enrique to be among the finest he has ever worked under.

"He has helped me improve significantly, both on and off the ball. I attempt to apply all the tactical guidance he provides. But I am also surrounded by exceptional players, which makes my job easier," he explained.

The 29 year old discussed PSG's ambitions to repeat last year's triumph.

"We always aspire to compete in the Champions League final. It was a historic moment. We are a young, highly motivated squad. Victory tomorrow is crucial for us, and if we can achieve it, winning again would be historic.

We are riding a wave of confidence; we cherish these moments. We have incredible staff, players, and a will to win. We believe we can win the Champions League," he stated.
