Messi fit for World Cup following hamstring strain concern

The MLS club offered no specific timeline regarding the Argentine star's comeback after his sudden departure during Miami's 6-4 win over Philadelphia in the 73rd minute last Sunday.

The 38 year old legend, representing the reigning World Cup holders, clutched his left leg before signalling to be substituted. However, he was seen walking unaided as he headed towards the dressing room.

"Subsequent medical examinations on Monday revealed an initial diagnosis of muscle overuse linked to fatigue in his left hamstring," Inter Miami confirmed in an official release.

"His return to training will be determined by ongoing medical assessment and physical response."

This update provided limited clarity about the condition of the eight time Ballon d'Or recipient as Argentina gears up to defend their title in the upcoming World Cup. The tournament, jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, begins on June 11.

However, according to reliable sources including Fabrizio Romano, Messi is expected to be fully prepared for the competition.

Argentina's opening fixture is scheduled for June 16 against Algeria in Kansas City.

Since arriving at Inter Miami in 2023, Messi has carefully managed his playing time, often being rested during periods with multiple matches.

The MLS season is currently paused for the World Cup.

While Messi has not officially announced his participation, anticipation is high for his potential record equalling sixth World Cup appearance.

Argentina's final squad will be announced next week, with warm up matches against Honduras on June 6 and Iceland on June 9 taking place in the US before the tournament.
