Manchester United defender De Ligt set to extend unusual streak of a new manager every season
Manchester United recently confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as their permanent head coach on a two-year contract following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim in January.
Amorim won 25 of his 63 matches in charge of the Red Devils and was harshly dismissed by the board, marking the shortest reign of a permanent manager at United since David Moyes was sacked just eight months into his tenure in 2014.
Carrick's start next season means De Ligt will play under another new manager at the beginning of the new campaign, adding to the multitude of coaches he has worked under since the start of his professional career a decade ago.
The Dutchman has featured under 11 different managers, each in different seasons, in what is a remarkable and somewhat concerning statistic for the defender and anyone who hopes to manage him.
Interestingly, he has been part of two clubs, Ajax and United, where Erik ten Hag was in charge during his time at the back.
Below is the complete list of managers who have had De Ligt in their squad, as he continues to greet new head coaches at the age of 26:
2016: Peter Bosz | Ajax
2017: Marcel Keizer | Ajax
2018: Erik ten Hag | Ajax
2019: Maurizio Sarri | Juventus
2020: Andrea Pirlo | Juventus
2021: Max Allegri | Juventus
2022: Julian Nagelsmann | Bayern
2023: Thomas Tuchel | Bayern
2024: Erik ten Hag | Manchester United
2025: Ruben Amorim | Manchester United
2026: Michael Carrick | Manchester United
