Kompany, who received a booking in the match and will sit out the first leg of their semi-final against title holders Paris Saint-Germain, noted that the Bavarians, pursuing a treble, needed to summon their resolve to defeat the 15-time European champions Real 6-4 overall in an epic encounter.

"The players displayed remarkable mental resilience today in bouncing back from difficulties," Kompany remarked. "The supporters played a key role too. We maintained our composure and sensed our opportunity would arise. The team earned this triumph.

Bayern, hosting the game, fell behind 1-0 almost immediately when Arda Guler capitalised on an error by keeper Manuel Neuer, and Real surged ahead twice more to lead 3-2 at the break.

Despite losing the first leg 1-2 in Spain, Bayern held steady and netted twice late on via Luis Diaz and Michael Olise to secure the win and progress to the semi-finals.

The six-time continental winners could seal the Bundesliga crown this weekend, holding a 12-point lead with five games left, prior to their German Cup semi-final clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
