Harry Kane praises Luis Díaz's display as Bayern Munich knock out Real Madrid
With a 2-1 lead from the first leg, Bayern trailed on three occasions during the first half as the 15-time winners Real showcased their typical resilience in Europe.
The aggregate score stood at 4-4 when Díaz netted in the 89th minute to give Bayern the edge, followed by Michael Olise's goal in added time.
Bayern advanced to the semi-finals against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain after a 4-3 victory on the evening and 6-4 overall.
"I reckoned even during the final 20 minutes we were the ones pushing to create chances," Kane shared with the press.
"They began to flag a bit, and occasionally it just needs that spark, a brilliant strike, or a superb delivery.
"Here it came down to two excellent efforts from Lucho (Díaz) and Michael (Olise), sealing the result for us, and that embodies the Champions League.
"You can dominate and still come up short, so it feels great to progress and claim this win."
The England skipper highlighted his team's composure in surmounting the challenge from Madrid.
"The ups and downs in the opening half were quite remarkable," Kane noted.
"We kept our focus, remained composed, particularly after the break, knowing we would grow in strength as time wore on.
"This term we have shown real physical robustness in the closing 10-15 minutes, and that is precisely what unfolded tonight. We seized our opportunities when it mattered most at the finish."
Kane's goal in the first half marked him as the first Englishman in a leading European division since the 1930-31 campaign to reach 50 goals across all competitions in a single season.
"It is recognition for all the effort invested, not only by me but by the whole squad," Kane remarked to TNT.
"None of it would happen without the support from my teammates, and for me it is simply about maintaining the momentum.
"We have another six weeks in Bayern colours, plus England face the World Cup this summer, so I aim to remain in top physical condition and ready to contribute."
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany affirmed his team's preparedness for the PSG clash.
"We trust in our abilities like never before," Kompany declared.
"We held that belief right up to the last, refusing to yield following two intense encounters with a formidable Real Madrid."
