Guardiola urges Man City to use FA Cup glory to fuel Premier League title push
The coach's squad secured the FA Cup for the first time since 2023 due to Antoine Semenyo's clever back flicked goal in the second period at Wembley on Saturday.
This one to zero win delivered a domestic double for City after they overcame Arsenal in the League Cup final during March.
Attention now turns to the final pair of league fixtures as City attempt to catch leaders Arsenal.
The Gunners are strong favourites for the crown and will seal the title by beating Burnley on Monday followed by a win at Crystal Palace on May 24.
City in second place and only two points behind remain ready to capitalise if Mikel Arteta's side make errors.
Winning away at Bournemouth and hosting Aston Villa on the closing day could see City lift the trophy should Arsenal drop points in their remaining games.
With this prospect in mind Guardiola prevented lengthy festivities after claiming the twentieth trophy of his outstanding ten year spell at Wembley.
"Home no beer whatsoever" he remarked about pausing the revelry inside the dressing room.
"Next Monday after Aston Villa we plan to mark success together with the women's team during a parade in Manchester yet we lack time at present.
"Only three days remain before facing Bournemouth. Chelsea enjoyed seven days to ready for the final while we had three and yesterday proved troublesome.
"It took six hours to travel from Manchester to this venue. Train services cause issues across this nation. Six hours!"
After leading City to the title six times across the past eight seasons Guardiola recognises a stunning recovery is required to wrest the trophy from Arsenal.
Regardless of how the title race ends he feels the squad stand in a stronger position than twelve months earlier when they ended the 2024 to 25 campaign without any silverware.
In his view the impact of Semenyo and Marc Guehi both recruited in the January window from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace plus the progress shown by Matheus Nunes Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico O'Reilly indicate City can regain supremacy next season.
"It took time to establish harmony after overlooking a detail in the build up. Recent months have yielded stability possibly absent before" he noted.
"Many fresh faces and injury issues appeared so extra time was needed. Top level action refuses to pause however.
"We fell to a fine side in Real Madrid within the Champions League yet performed superbly across other events. Prospects look positive.
"I understand the players and sense their dedication to the club so I feel certain we will compete at the highest level again in coming years."
