EXCLUSIVE: Fuseini eyes league crown after clinching winner in Belgian Cup decider

Even after enduring a challenging campaign, Mohammed Fuseini entered the pitch as a substitute for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, netting the decisive strike against Anderlecht to secure the Croky Cup for his squad.

This marks the fourth occasion that Union Saint-Gilloise has claimed the Belgian Cup, achieved through a tough route as the contest extended into additional time tied at 1-1.

Fuseini replaced a teammate with five minutes to go and regained the advantage for Union Saint-Gilloise merely five minutes into the overtime period via a composed effort.

Kevin Rodriguez added the fourth shortly afterwards to confirm the success for David Hubert's squad.

Fuseini sat out most of the initial half of the term due to injury. Although he returned in January, he has struggled for consistent involvement, featuring as a starter in just five fixtures.

In an interview with Flashscore, the goalscorer shared that stepping in to decide the final felt extraordinary. "It felt incredible," he remarked.

"I felt a touch let down by the timing of my entry. Yet I focused on contributing fully to the side. And I managed to find the net to aid our Croky Cup triumph."

Having notched two strikes in his previous two outings, Fuseini aims to move past his setbacks and end the term on a high.

"Truth be told, it has been a tough year. Early on, injury sidelined me for half the season. I put in real effort to return.

"These are the highlights I trained so hard for. I am thrilled, and I aim to bag three more goals by the close."

However, Fuseini's ambitions extend further. Following the cup success, attention turns to the championship race.

Union Saint-Gilloise's upcoming fixture is against Club Brugge, whom they follow by a single point at the summit. A win would place their fate under their control, and the Ghanaian forward declares his preparedness.

"Sunday brings a crucial clash with Club Brugge. It could prove pivotal. Personally, I am set, and I plan to net once more.

"If possible, two strikes, or at least one to drive us towards the Belgian title."

Union Saint-Gilloise will travel to face Club Brugge on Sunday, followed by encounters with Gent and Anderlecht to wrap up the Belgian campaign.
