Departing Bournemouth manager Iraola reportedly agrees terms with Liverpool
Although he managed to win the Premier League title in his very first campaign with Liverpool, Arne Slot could not survive a difficult term.
No silverware in his second season, no standout performance in the Champions League: after weeks of uncertainty, the Reds' hierarchy finally decided to part ways with the Dutch coach over the weekend.
As soon as Slot was released, Andoni Iraola's name began to circulate. This made sense, given that the Spanish coach was nearing the end of his contract with Bournemouth, whom he guided to an impressive sixth place finish this season in the Premier League.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, terms are already agreed 'in principle' and Iraola is set to be announced as Liverpool's new head coach imminently.
Alongside Slot, Mohamed Salah is also leaving Liverpool and other key players are expected to follow suit.
The incoming Basque manager will therefore have a significant challenge ahead, but he will have resources and plenty of quality players at his disposal. Whether that proves sufficient to restore them to the top remains to be seen.
