De Zerbi demands Spurs fight with 'heart, courage, passion' in crucial relegation clash
The Italian manager stated he wouldn't be sidetracked by debates over Romero's commitment, after the defender departed to undergo knee injury recovery with Argentina's medical team before the upcoming World Cup, despite Tottenham hovering merely two points clear of the Premier League relegation places.
"He's consistently demonstrated his wish to remain with us under my leadership. The player is injured. I'm not foolish," De Zerbi remarked during Friday's press briefing.
"His presence in the stands changes nothing. We can't afford to waste energy on distractions. Total focus must be on the match. Our squad possesses the quality to secure our objectives."
A single point against mid-table Everton would virtually guarantee Tottenham's safety, given their vastly superior goal difference compared to West Ham United in the relegation zone.
"This demands total commitment - heart, courage and passion flowing through our performance. This isn't just another match, it's our destiny," emphasized the 46-year-old coach, drawing parallels with Spurs' Europa League success under previous manager Ange Postecoglou.
"Last season's trophy-winning European campaign demonstrated their capability in high-pressure finals. While tomorrow brings no silverware, the stakes are far greater - the club's legacy, personal pride and professional integrity are on the line," De Zerbi added.
Solanke returns to bolster Tottenham
Tottenham receive timely reinforcement with Dominic Solanke's return from a hamstring injury that sidelined the striker for nearly four weeks.
"Solanke's back in contention. We'll assess whether he starts," confirmed De Zerbi.
The manager also noted Djed Spence's availability despite sustaining a fractured jaw during Tuesday's defeat to Chelsea.
"Pressure reveals character. These defining moments test and strengthen everyone - coaches, players, individuals," he reflected.
"True growth emerges from adversity. Comfortable circumstances never forge resilient winners."
