Czech Republic banking on experience ahead of World Cup return

The extended squad of 54 players features Slavia Prague forward Tomas Chory and midfielder David Doudera, both sent off with red cards during the recent derby that ended in chaos as supporters invaded the pitch, resulting in the match being called off and the pair being let go by their club.

Under the leadership of 74-year-old coach Miroslav Koubek, the national side will take on Kosovo on 31 May in Prague prior to travelling to a preparation camp in New Jersey for the competition across Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

Koubek stepped in after an astonishing qualification setback against the Faroe Islands, leading the Czechs through the play-offs to earn their initial World Cup spot in 18 years.

The foundation of the team draws from those who excelled in the play-off triumphs over Ireland and Denmark, featuring Wolverhampton defender Ladislav Krejci, Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Pavel Sulc, and 35-year-old Vladimir Darida, who competes in the Czech premier division with Hradec Kralove.

Hoffenheim forward Adam Hlozek makes a comeback despite persistent injury concerns, and 17-year-old Sparta Prague midfielder Hugo Sochurek earns his first call-up for international duty.

The Czech Republic opens its World Cup bid in Group A versus South Korea on 12 June, then meets co-host Mexico followed by South Africa.
