'Chaos ahead': Hearts manager McInnes eager for decisive title clash against Celtic
Top of the table Hearts need just a draw in their final match against runners-up Celtic in Glasgow to secure the championship.
This would mark the first time since Aberdeens 1984/85 triumph that a team outside Celtic or Rangers has claimed the Scottish crown.
A contentious spot-kick right at the end of added time gave Celtic a 3-2 win over Motherwell on Wednesday, leaving them a single point adrift of Hearts.
Had that dramatic goal not occurred, the current holders would have required a three-goal margin over Hearts to hold onto the trophy.
As things stand, any win for Celtic no matter the scoreline will keep the title in Glasgows east end.
McInnes called the penalty call outrageous in the immediate reaction, yet he focused forward on what he described as a blockbuster finish to an enthralling championship battle.
"This represents an ideal close to the campaign for the division, for Scottish soccer, packed with tension and thrill... Pure blockbuster stuff," McInnes remarked before Scotlands first title decider on the last day since 1991.
"Expect mayhem, an electric vibe. Some might assume the usual pattern resumes, Celtic take their home fixture and the league.
"Yet we have torn up expectations repeatedly this term, and I believe we have one more surprise left, now its our chance to deliver."
Hearts have seized on the turbulent season faced by Celtic and Rangers to hold the top spot from September onwards.
They have shattered their own points tally by hitting 80 and remained undefeated at home throughout the league fixtures.
However Celtic pose the ultimate challenge for Hearts with Martin ONeills squad chasing a 14th championship in 15 seasons.
The Green Brigade have notched six straight league triumphs to surge back into the race under temporary manager ONeill.
"No matter the outcome tomorrow, its been an outstanding year, though it could become our most remarkable yet," McInnes continued.
"Breaking club records and our achievements this season mean they will forever stand out as a remarkable group. To take it further though, we must claim victory.
"We need to forge our unique story and enduring mark through a standout showing."
