Canada pledges 145 million dollars towards World Cup safety in Toronto and Vancouver
The event, running from June 11th to July 19th and jointly organised by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, will feature thirteen fixtures in Toronto and Vancouver.
"This funding will support provinces and municipalities in their efforts to ensure people remain safe while enjoying the tournament, and ensure law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to deliver a safe and well-managed event," Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree stated during a press briefing in Toronto.
Approximately 45 million dollars of the allocation will go to Toronto, with 100 million dollars earmarked for Vancouver.
This additional funding complements the 220 million dollars previously provided by the federal government to the host cities in Canada.
The national capital had earlier committed up to 320 million dollars to facilitate the hosting of the tournament.
