Calvert Lewin grabs stoppage time winner for Leeds to hinder Brightons European ambitions

Leeds had their Premier League position secured and wanted to finish their season at home with some flair. They faced Brighton who could confirm a European spot by winning.

The game started chaotically with a lively crowd at Elland Road and opportunities for both teams. Carlos Baleba shot from distance which Karl Darlow saved easily. Daniel James nearly scored with a curling shot from outside the box that went just wide.

As half time neared Brighton improved and almost scored but Darlow made an excellent save to stop Pascal Gross curling effort.

Right before half time the visitors nearly conceded after a poor clearance from Lewis Dunk that seemed to be going in but Bart Verbruggen saved it.

After the restart Brighton pushed for a goal and had chances. Danny Welbeck had a shot blocked by Ethan Ampadu and their leading scorer headed wide from a corner.

Brighton have scored the most goals from substitutes this season totaling twelve and they missed another when Diego Gomez shot over after being found in the box.

With fifteen minutes left Anton Stach was carried off injured and the match appeared to be heading for a draw with few chances.

However in the final moments Calvert Lewin took advantage of a bad back pass from Jan Paul van Hecke rounded the goalkeeper and scored into an empty net.

This win with their only shot on target lifted Daniel Farke team to thirteenth place more than ten points above the drop zone.

Brighton still need to perform on the last matchday to ensure European football.
