Brondby dismiss head coach Steve Cooper following underwhelming season in Danish Superliga

Brondby IF have terminated their partnership with head coach Steve Cooper effective immediately. The club has confirmed that assistant coach Alan Tate will also depart.

The Danish side has additionally appointed Julius Ohnesorge as their new football director.

Cooper assumed the role of head coach at the club last September. Under his tenure, Brondby experienced a season of inconsistent results, culminating in a fourth place finish in the Superliga.

The Welsh manager's final match was against FC Copenhagen, where Brondby suffered a 1 3 defeat after extra time, thereby missing out on qualification for next season's Conference League.

Scott McLachlan, vice chairman of Brondby's board, stated on the club's official website that the decision was driven by the team's results and performances.

"By appointing Steve, we made a decision that we believed and hoped would elevate the club to new heights. While progress has been made in certain areas, the results and performances on the pitch have not met expectations. This is why we have decided to part ways with both Steve and Alan today", McLachlan explained.

During his tenure, the Welsh head coach oversaw 28 matches for Brondby. His previous managerial experience includes roles at English clubs such as Leicester and Nottingham Forest.

His record at Brondby comprised 10 victories, 6 draws, and 12 losses.

Brondby is also restructuring its sporting leadership, with Ohnesorge, who has served as technical director since the summer of 2025, stepping into the role of football director.

He succeeds Benjamin Schmedes, who has previously disclosed his appointment as sports director within the German league organisation, DFL.
