Borussia Dortmund sign French defender Joane Gadou from Salzburg as replacement for Niklas Sule

The 19 year old Gadou has transferred from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund on a long term contract extending to 2031. The deal is valued at around 20 million euros or roughly 17.35 million pounds, including possible add ons.

Gadou has played for France at youth international level and progressed through the Paris Saint Germain youth setup before his switch to Salzburg in 2024.

This move represents the first signing for Borussia Dortmund since Ole Book took over as sporting director, with promises to emphasise the acquisition of emerging young players.

Previously, talents such as Erling Haaland and Karim Adeyemi made the journey from Salzburg to join the Dortmund squad.

Niklas Sule, capped 49 times by Germany, stated in early May his plan to step away from professional football this summer at age 30.
