Betway Premiership Final Fixtures Promise High Stakes for Pirates Title Hopes and Tense Relegation Outcomes

Six of the seven remaining matches carry major stakes for the league title, MTN8 places or relegation scenarios.

Only the game involving Lamontville Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy lacks real consequence since Arrows are already set for the top eight while Galaxy sit clear of relegation yet unable to reach the upper half.

Here is an overview of the key outcomes on the final day.

League Title

Orlando Pirates require a victory against relegation threatened Orbit College to secure the championship. Any other result will hand Mamelodi Sundowns a ninth consecutive title.

The contest takes place at Mbombela Stadium and will attract many Pirates fans eager to see history made along with a 120th domestic trophy.

The task facing the Buccaneers remains straightforward.

MTN8 Qualification

Sundowns, Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu, Sekhukhune United, Golden Arrows and Polokwane City have already booked their MTN8 spots for next season.

Durban City are close to confirmation but require a point at home against AmaZulu to seal it though even a loss might suffice.

They hold 39 points and a zero goal difference while Stellenbosch FC and Siwelele sit on 36 points with a minus four goal difference.

Stellenbosch visit relegation threatened Marumo Gallants and Siwelele head to Sekhukhune. Both would need Durban City to lose then win by a sufficient margin to overhaul the goal difference.

For instance if City fell 1 0 then Stellenbosch would require a three goal winning margin to move ahead on goals scored. The same condition applies to Siwelele.

Relegation

Four teams remain involved though Chippa United cannot face automatic relegation.

Most at risk is bottom club Magesi FC with 21 points and a minus 20 goal difference. In the play off spot is Orbit College on 24 points and a minus 24 goal difference while one spot higher sit Marumo Gallants on 24 points and a minus 17 goal difference. Chippa hold 25 points and a minus 21 goal difference.

Magesi can only hope to win at home against Richards Bay who have no remaining incentives and see Pirates defeat Orbit College. That outcome would allow Magesi to overtake Orbit who would then face automatic relegation.

Magesi could even reach safety if Gallants lose by a large margin to top eight hopeful Stellenbosch and the goal difference is overturned.

The sole route for Chippa to enter the equation requires both Orbit College and Gallants to collect a point while Chippa fail at Kaizer Chiefs though Chippa would then need to lose by four goals or if Orbit win with Gallants drawing.

Chippa have likely done just enough yet it has been another campaign far too tight near the foot of the table.
