Arne Slot hails 'great human' Robertson for transforming full-back position

Robertson arrived at Liverpool as someone unfamiliar to many fans, yet he rapidly won over the supporters through his tireless sprints along the wing and precise crosses.

For numerous seasons, the Scotland captain alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold stood out as premier full-backs in the Premier League, with plenty believing their forward-thinking style redefined the role.

Alexander-Arnold boasts the highest assist tally for any full-back in the leagues history, whereas Robertson ranks second, managing ten or more assists across three distinct seasons.

The 32-year-old proved essential in Liverpools triumphant period under Jürgen Klopp, and he has earned strong favour with Slot as well.

During his pre-match press briefing before the Friday evening clash with Aston Villa, Slot emphasised Robertsons impact on the full-back role via his relentless shuttling up and down the touchline, alluding to that memorable footage from the Manchester City encounter.

"I think he is maybe the player who changed that position into a player that constantly goes up and down. I think we all remember the press vs Man City; many, many managers showed that to their players. I was one of them," the Dutchman said.

"It showed mentality and intensity. He played with that all throughout, constantly up and down, important on both sides of the pitch. One of the full-backs that changed that position.

"He is a great human, I have experienced that for two years working with him. People see that in social media posts. He has been a very influential player for this club."

Robertson plans to leave Anfield upon the expiry of his contract in late June, exiting after nine years with eight major trophies, encompassing two Premier League crowns and a Champions League victory.
