Alvaro Arbeloa confirms he will depart his role as Real Madrid coach after a season without any trophies

"Yes," Arbeloa confirmed during a press conference when asked if he would not be coaching the team next season, following widespread reports that experienced manager Jose Mourinho is returning to the club.

Los Blancos host Athletic Bilbao on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu in their final LaLiga match of a difficult campaign.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez appointed Arbeloa as Xabi Alonso's replacement in January and he is expected to be succeeded by Portuguese veteran Mourinho.

The Spaniard Arbeloa stated he would not join Mourinho's coaching staff if the Portuguese coach takes over.

"Mou has an excellent technical team, he has good people around him, if he returns to Madrid he will bring his own team," said Arbeloa.

"There is no possibility that I would join him. As for my future, from Monday I will think about it."

Arbeloa, who played for Madrid from 2009 to 2016 and later coached at the club's youth level, expressed hope that this match would be a "see you later" rather than a farewell.

"I hope it is a see you later... I have always regarded this as my home, I have been with Madrid for 20 years in different capacities," said Arbeloa.

"This will be my final game this season as Real Madrid coach, and I do not know if it will be the last game of my life in this role.

We never know. I will try to enjoy it and attempt to secure the victory."
