AC Oulu back on top of Veikkausliiga by ending KuPS' unbeaten start

AC Oulu 2-0 KuPS

KuPS had previously halted AC Oulu's perfect record at the beginning of the season, and after a defeat to Lahti in their previous outing, it appeared troubles were mounting, yet they recovered impressively at home versus the champions, taking the lead within the opening four minutes.

A defensive error involving goalkeeper Johannes Kreidl and defender Kasim Adams allowed the ball to fall to Rasmus Karjalainen, who unleashed a stunning 35-yard volley over the keeper into the unguarded goal.

The second goal came with 19 minutes remaining, as Lamine Ghezali retrieved the ball after his initial pass was stopped, then drove forward into the KuPS penalty area and slotted it home from a narrow position.

In the dying minutes, Bob Armah received a red card for a second yellow, capping a frustrating day for the Kuopio team, who have secured only one victory in their past four games and slipped to third in the standings.

Jaro 2-2 TPS

Freshly promoted TPS remain among the mere two teams yet to taste defeat, courtesy of a last-gasp leveller on the road against Jaro, who were robbed of an initial victory and have now shared the spoils in four consecutive fixtures.

After methodical possession in the 32nd minute, Mats Pedersen threaded a pass to Herman Sjogrell, who calmly slotted it away to put Jaro ahead, a lead they held until stoppage time in the first half, when a set-piece delivery was flicked on by Matej Hradecky for Albijon Muzaci to poke in the equaliser.

Sjogrell restored Jaro's advantage early in the second period from 12 yards, following a clumsy foul by Oscar Haggstrom, but once more the visitors from Turku responded late, with a floated delivery into the box nodded on by Eeti Turkki for Theodoros Tsirigotis to head home. TPS hold fourth spot, trailing the leaders by three points, while Jaro drop to ninth.

Mariehamn 0-1 VPS

Mariehamn join the quartet of clubs still hunting their opening win this campaign, falling 1-0 at home to VPS, who notched consecutive triumphs.

The solitary strike arrived around the midpoint of the opening period, as a driven delivery from the flank evaded the Mariehamn backline, permitting Paulo Lima to scramble it across the line.

That single effort propelled the Vaasa outfit into the upper half of the table, leaving Mariehamn second from the foot with two points after back-to-back losses.

SJK 1-1 Ilves

The clash in Seinajoki between the two outfits ended level, even though the visiting Ilves held the advantage for virtually the entire match against SJK.

The team from Tampere struck first after only 52 seconds, with Maksim Stjopin collecting a stray ball in the centre circle, advancing 30 yards, and rifling it low into the net from outside the area.

For much of the contest, it seemed sufficient for Ilves' debut success, but deep into added time at the end, Jeremiah Streng's headed effort from a wide delivery was parried by Faris Krkalic, only for Rangel to follow up and bundle in the tie, marking consecutive stalemates for SJK in eighth position.
