The Campeonato de Portugal is the fourth most relevant soccer league from Portugal. The competition was created in 2013 by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and acted as a third division in its system, but it eventually became the fourth division when the FPF restructured the lower categories in 2021.
The competition is the most contested in Portuguese soccer, with four groups of 14 teams playing in the category. The system to determine promotion and relegation is quite simple: the top two teams from each group enter one of two promotion groups, while the last five from each lot are relegated to the District Championship. Those who make it to the final round play twice against their group rivals, where the top two in each series are promoted to Liga 3.
Teams in the Campeonato de Portugal also get access to the Taça de Portugal, with the only exception of reserve or B teams playing in this category.
In terms of teams who have played in this category, clubs such as Famalicao, Vizela, Casa Pía and Farense have all been part of this competition at some point in history.
