About Derde Divisie

History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Derde Divisie is the fourth tier of professional football in the Netherlands. It was founded in 2010 and initially known as “Topklasse” (Top Class); up until the 2016/17 season, the Derde Divisie was actually the third level of professional football. However, it was eventually moved down a tier at the start of the 2016/17 campaign and currently ranks in fourth spot, ahead of the Vierde Divisie (fifth tier) and below the Tweede Divisie (third tier).

Teams competing in the Derde Divisie are eligible to take part in the annual KNVB Cup each season.
