Brondby sack head coach Steve Cooper after disappointing season in Danish Superliga

Brondby IF have ended their collaboration with head coach Steve Cooper with immediate effect. The club announces that assistant coach Alan Tate is also leaving.

The Danish club has also hired Julius Ohnesorge as their new director of football.

Cooper has been the head coach at the club since September last year. Since then, Brondby has had a season with fluctuating results and finished in fourth place in the Superliga.

The Welsh coach's last match was against FC Copenhagen, where Brondby lost 1-3 after extra time and thus failed to secure a place in the Conference League qualification for next season.

Scott McLachlan, vice-chairman of Brondby's board, tells the club's website that the results and performances are the basis for the decision.

"By hiring Steve, we made a choice that we both believed and hoped could lift the club to a new level. We have done so in several aspects, but neither the results nor the performances on the pitch have followed suit. That is why we have chosen to say goodbye to both Steve and Alan today", McLachlan tells the club's website.

The Welsh head coach was in charge for 28 matches as Brondby coach. He has previously been the manager of English clubs such as Leicester and Nottingham Forest.

This resulted in 10 wins, 6 draws, and 12 defeats at Brondby.

Brondby is also implementing a change in the sporting management, where Ohnesorge, who has been technical director since the summer of 2025, will become football director.

He takes over the position from Benjamin Schmedes, who has previously announced that he has been given a new job as sports director in the German league organization, DFL.
