Atletico set to sign Hjulmand for €40 million as Dane heads to Madrid for medical

The total package agreed with Sporting CP is valued at €40 million plus add-ons. The 26-year-old Danish international midfielder is scheduled to fly to Madrid today to undergo his medical examination and finalize the transfer.

Atlético de Madrid had already stepped up negotiations in recent days, after an initial offer was rejected by Sporting. 

The Danish international, who has been capped 27 times for Denmark, arrived at Alvalade in the summer of 2023 from Lecce and quickly established himself as one of the team's key players, later taking on the captain's armband. The transfer is still awaiting official confirmation from both clubs.

The Danish midfielder is expected to join pre-season training immediately, which officially kicks off around 13 July, as coach Diego Simeone has prioritized Hjulmand to anchor and bring physical steel to his midfield ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.
