Liga II hakkında

Tarihçe, format, organizasyon, medya kapsamı

The Liga 2, often referred to as Liga II, is the second most relevant league in Romania’s football pyramid. It was launched in 1934 under the name Divizia 2, but it later evolved to Liga II in the early 2000s.

The league was composed of several regional competitions until a change was brought in, where 20 teams were allowed to battle for promotion to Liga I. In the same manner, the process to determine those who are relegated to Liga III is far easier under this new system.

The competition sees 22 teams battling for the top six spots, which grant access to the promotion playoff. The two top teams in that playoff make it to Liga I, while the third and fourth ranked teams in that playoff battle out for the final spot. In terms of relegation, the remaining 16 teams in the league enter a relegation playoff, where there are two groups of eight teams, and the two teams with the worst record in each group get relegated to Liga III.

Coverage of Liga II is divided between Digi Sport, Prima Sport, and Orange Sport, who have agreed deals with the Romanian Football Federation until 2025.
