Ligue 2 hakkında
Tarihçe, format, organizasyon, medya kapsamı
Ligue 2 is France’s second-division professional football league and is one of two divisions that make up the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), the other being the country’s top-flight Ligue 1. Ligue 2 was founded in 1933, a year after the establishment of the country's top football division, and was previously known as Division 2.
The competition operates on the relegation/promotion system, with the worst performers getting demoted to the Championnat National, the third division, while the best performers climb up to Ligue 1. Furthermore, the league follows a double round-robin format, with each team playing every other side twice per season, once at home and once away.
The inaugural season was won by Red Star, the country’s fourth-oldest football club. The number of participants in Ligue 2 has fluctuated throughout its history and in December 2021, a decision was made to decrease Ligue 2 from 20 teams to 18 teams from the 2024-25 season onward following a majority vote from LFP clubs.
Regarding broadcasting rights, beIN Sports secured the broadcast rights to Ligue 2 matches in the USA for the 2024/25-2028/29 period. Additionally, fans can access live streams of Ligue 2 through beIN Sports CONNECT, the network's over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform. Furthermore, Fanatiz and FuboTV secured broadcasting rights in the United States, thus bringing additional live streams and on-demand broadcasts of Ligue 2 to the USA.
